Nilzan LV Oral Drench contains Oxyclozanide;
Oxyclozanide is an anthelmintic drug commonly used in veterinary medicine to control internal parasites in livestock. It is known for its effectiveness against various parasites, including liver flukes and gastrointestinal roundworms. Oxyclozanide is considered a very good active ingredient for parasite control:
- Broad-spectrum activity: Oxyclozanide has a broad-spectrum activity, which means it can target and control various types of parasites. It is particularly effective against liver fluke, which are responsible for causing significant economic losses in livestock.
- High efficacy: Oxyclozanide has been proven to be highly effective against both mature and immature stages of parasites. It acts by interfering with the energy metabolism of parasites, resulting in their death or expulsion from the host’s body.
- Limited resistance: Resistance development is a concern when using anthelmintic drugs. However, compared to some other anthelmintics, the development of resistance to Oxyclozanide has been reported to be relatively low. This is important for sustainable parasite control as it helps to preserve the effectiveness of the drug over time.
- Safety profile: Oxyclozanide is generally well-tolerated by animals when used according to the recommended dosage. It has a low toxicity level, and few reported side effects. However, it is always important to follow proper dosing instructions and consult a veterinarian before administering any medication.

- Cattle weighing more than 675kg should receive 5mL per 45kg live weight.
- The live weight should be estimated carefully so that the dose can be calculated accurately to ensure optimum efficiency with economy.
- A few representative animals should be weighed, or a weigh band should be used.
- Dose the mob to the heaviest animal by live weight in each group (e.g. cows, bulls, calves), do not underdose.
- Meat: Do not use less than 14 days before slaughter for human consumption.
- Milk (Cattle): Zero (0) days.
- Milk (Sheep): Do not use in ewes which are producing or may in the future produce milk that may be used or processed for human consumption.
- Export Slaughter Interval (ESI): Do not use less than 14 days before slaughter for export
- Do not administer Nilzan LV to dogs or horses.
- Do not use in ewes that are producing or may in the future produce milk that may be used or processed for human consumption.
- Some scouring and slight loss of appetite may be seen in some animals for 1-2 days after treatment.
- In milking herds, a reduction in milk yield is to be expected for 2 days following handling for dosing.
- Mustering and dosing of stock within 1 month of parturition (calving or lambing) is not recommended unless drenching is essential. Treatment at this time could result in stress-related adverse reactions.
- Severely stressed stock, or stock in ill health, are less tolerant of handling and dosing. Such procedures could result in stress-related diseases (e.g. pregnancy toxaemia, grass tetany, milk fever). If treatment is essential, drench with minimum disturbance and ensure adequate feed is available before and after treatment.
- Exercise care in handling weak, pregnant and young animals to avoid unnecessary stress. Avoid yarding animals off-feed overnight, and ensure animals have access to water when yarded prior to drenching. Recommended doses should not be exceeded except under veterinary supervision.
- Nilzan LV is fully effective at these doses.
- Nilzan LV has a temporary stimulating effect on some cattle for a short period after treatment, often accompanied by “friskiness”.
- Poisonous if swallowed.
- It may irritate the eyes and skin.
- Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
- Wear rubber gloves.
- Store below 30oC (Room Temperature) in the closed, original container in a well-ventilated area.
- Do not store for prolonged periods in direct sunlight.
- If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or the Poisons Information Centre Phone 131126.
- Additional information is listed in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
