Tasmanian eID Tag Discount Scheme (Round 2)
As of 18th March 2026 the Rebate scheme has closed. On 13th March 2026 DNRE announced an early closing to their Sheep and Goat eID Tag Rebate Scheme stating it would close on Friday 3rd April 2026 or until funds exhausted. On 18th March DNRE announced the scheme has now closed.
As part of the implementation of a national electronic identification (eID) traceability system for sheep and farmed goats, Tasmania’s primary producers received a point of sale eID tag discount from 1 January 2024.
- The Support Scheme aimed to assist owners of sheep and goats to transition from the current visual device and mob-based approach to individual electronic tagging of sheep and goats, by providing a rebate on purchased tags.

Tasmanian Sheep and Goat eID Tag Rebate Scheme
Under the tag scheme, the black (YOB 2024), yellow (generic) breeder and pink post-breeder eID devices are all eligible for a rebate through 2024;
Eligible tag types
Rebates are only available on fully accredited National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFID) ear tags and leg bands. Refer to the Integrity Systems factsheet on its website for information on eligible eID devices.
Note that there are non-NLIS accredited RFID tags for sheep and goats in the market. These have not undertaken the rigorous testing and accreditation of NLIS approved tags. Non-NLIS accredited devices are not eligible for rebates under this scheme. Rebates apply on the following eligible eID devices over the listed periods.
NLIS Sheep & Goats in Tasmania
- Tasmanian producers must provide their issued Party ID when placing a NLIS order.
- All sheep and goats must be identified with an NLIS Sheep Breeder Tag before being dispatched to a sale yard or to another property.
- Completing DPIPWE’s NLIS Registration Form allows you to order NLIS tags in Tasmania.
