Point of Sale Discount Scheme
From 1 January 2025 until 30 June 2025, SA primary producers have received a point of sale eID tag discount of $0.95c per tag.
The scheme has now been extended but from 1 July 2025 sheep and goat producers will receive a 47.5 cent discount per tag at the point of sale on NLIS accredited eID tags aligned to the year-of-birth colour system:
- White (2025) eID tags – discount available 1 July 2025 – 31 December 2025
- Orange (2026) eID tags – discount available 1 January 2026 – 31 December 2026
- Light Green (2027) eID tags – discount available 1 January 2027 – 30 June 2027
- Discounted tags are available to South Australian producers for the following (NLIS) accredited eID tags – Allflex, Datamars (Z Tag), Leader Products, Shearwell and Enduro where a $0.47 discount per tag will be provided from 1st July 2025.
- Producers who purchase NLIS-accredited eID tags outside of the year-of-birth colour can also apply for the Expanded eID Device Rebate (2025-2027) to receive a 25% rebate up to 47.5 cents per tag until 30 June 2027.

75% rebate on essential eID equipment and 50% non YOB on eID tags!
SA producers (sheep and goats) can apply for a 75% rebate on essential eID equipment (Readers, weigh scales. indicators etc.)
If you move stock onto your property directly from another property (P2P) you could be eligible.
The maximum rebate amount depends on average head movements for the past 3 years:
- up to $500 for movements of 100 or less animals annually
- up to $2,000 for movements of between 101 and 5,000 animals annually
- up to $20,000 for movements of more than 5,000 animals annually.

Early adopters of eID will benefit from being able to access discounted tags for breeding stock being kept beyond 1 January 2027, when it will be mandatory for them to be eID tagged before leaving their property of birth. Sheep and farmed goats born on or after 1 January 2025 will need to be eID tagged before moving off property.
Producers are not be required to complete any application forms, but the discounted tags must be aligned to the NLIS year of birth (black for 2024 and white for 2025) and are only available to producers with an active property identification code (PIC) registered with the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA).

Eligible eID devices will have the discount applied at point of sale. This means when you go online the price of the devices that are eligible under the program will already be 95c less than the original retail price.
Expanded eID device rebate
The rebate for Sheep and farmed goat electronic identification (eID) has now been expanded to include all 8 colours in the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) year-of-birth (YOB) colour system for accredited eID tags.
Applications are open to SA sheep and goat producers who purchase eligible NLIS-accredited tags not designated for the current year.
After purchasing tags, producers can apply for a rebate on the purchase price of eligible eID devices of 50% up to a cap of $0.95 (GST exclusive) per tag.
You will need to upload copies of:
- Official tax invoices
- Full evidence of payment (eg. bank statements, supplier statements, paid invoices)
- A signed and witnessed eID Rebate Acquittal Form (this is a legal requirement)
- A statement by supplier not quoting ABN form (if relevant).

Note: The rebate excludes:
- pink post-breeder tags, colours outside of the YOB colour system (for example: brown and grey)
- non-NLIS accredited devices
- tags that align to the current YOB colour (black in 2024, white in 2025) which are already covered by the POS discount scheme.

NLIS Sheep & Goats in South Australia
- The eID Device Rebate (2023) remains open to producers for eligible tags purchased between 1 January 2023 – 31 December 2023.
- All sheep and goats must be identified with a visually readable NLIS device before being moved to any property or location with a different PIC.
