Aleis RFID readers offer many methods for transfers, what are they?
Aleis RFID readers are sold with a transfer program called Aleis DataLink. You can transfer to the NLIS Database using your serial lead / serial to USB lead.
Bluetooth connections are also available from Aleis. With Bluetooth you can read directly to your scale indicator or even through to your computer software.
You may also be interested in an RF link. It works via a RF link built into the reader and then a RF receiver which plugs into your computer.
Are all Aleis RFID units waterproof?
Yes, all Aleis RFID units are designed to work outside in the rain. If cleaning the RFID reader, do not use any high pressure cleaning equipment. Simply wipe down a damp cloth.
Are there any hidden costs when buying an Aleis RFID reader?
No. The price of your Aleis RFID reader includes the required accessories. When you purchase your Aleis reader you will also receive the following:
Battery charger
5 metre serial computer lead
USB adaptor and installation disk with instructions
User guide
Aleis DataLink transfer software (Australia)
12 months warranty

Can Aleis provide me with a battery powered RFID reader?
Yes. The Aleis portable RFID wand range for producers and industrial environments have an inbuilt battery offering up to 30 hours from one full charge.
If you purchase an Aleis fully automated RFID race reader, you have the choice of an inbulit battery which will offer up to 10 hours of continual usage or an external powered unit.
Can I mount a RFID race reader on steel?
No, it is not recommended that you mount a race reader on steel because it will lower the performance of the reader.
Can the Aleis RFID readers withstand tough weather conditions?
Yes! Aleis RFID Livestock Readers are totally waterproof and are built to withstand all types of harsh weather conditions including hot and cold temperature extremes including snow.
Can we sync Aleis RFID equipment to others?
Yes. Aleis RFID systems have the capabilities to sync with Allflex and Destron panel systems.
Can you see the screen of the RFID reader you are working on?
Yes. Any of the Aleis RFID readers that have a visual display screen also have a back light. The screens have been designed to be easily read in direct sunlight or in dark conditions.
Do any of the Aleis RFID readers have a visual display or visual counter?
Yes.
The 7020 RFID reader has a visual counter only. This reader displays the animal count whilst you are reading, it sets to 0 when a new session is created.
Any of the Aleis readers that start with the number “8” or “9” have a visual display screen. They will display for example; the RFID number, animal count, date and time, battery level indicator, RF signal indicator. Any readers starting with number “9” will also show your own personal data that you have entered into templates against mobs or single cattle.
For producer RFID products, these models are: 8030, 9030, 8050 and 9060.
For industrial RFID products, these models are: FFW 8050, FFW 9060, 8033, 8053 and 9063.
Do I have to set anything up?
No, you don’t have to do anything with our handheld RFID wands or race readers (you must mount antenna with race readers). If you receive a portable handheld RFID reader you can charge it up and start reading. If you purchase a fully automated race reader, once you have the antenna / panel mounted, again you can charge the reader head and start reading immediately.
Do I have to take my computer to the yards?
No, the Aleis RFID readers will store the data in its memory. This allows you to take the reader back to the computer at a later time to transfer or export for herd management purposes. The storage on any reader starting with the number “7” is 10,000 RFID numbers. Any readers starting with the number “8” or “9”, the storage capacity is 100,000 RFID numbers.
Do I have to tune my RFID race reader?
No, it is not required for you to tune your RFID race reader. All non-ISO readers are tuned in the factory to work on a wooded race as per the setup guide in the user manual. If there is metal (e.g. steel) closer than 300mm to the edge it will affect the read range. If the reader is our later ISO generation then it auto tunes when you turn the reader on.
Do the Aleis readers read/scan all RFID approved tags and boluses?
All of the Aleis RFID readers scan all ISO II784 / II785 compliant products.
Does Aleis supply a portable handheld RFID reader?
Yes, there are a wide range of handheld RFID readers within the Aleis range.
Does the Aleis RFID race antenna / saleyard antenna have any null spot(s)?
No. The Aleis RFID race antenna for producers, race readers for saleyards and feedlots and fixed race readers have no null spot(s). A null spot is an area on an antenna where there is no activation and so tags or boluses may get through without being read. The Aleis race antenna design is exclusive to Aleis who hold a worldwide patent.
Does the Aleis RFID race antenna / saleyard antenna have to be on both sides of the race?
No. The Aleis race antenna / race reader has the strength to read the full width of a single file race.
How do I fix the date and time on my RFID reader?
There are 2 ways to update the time on your reader.
Automatic update via computer
Connect your reader to Aleis DataLink and it will automatically update to the time and date that are set on your computer
Manual update via reader
Press MENU/ SYSTEM SETUP arrow down to “Set Date and Time”
Press OK
Use the arrows to change the date and time
Press OK
How do I upload a file to my RFID reader and compare to it for alerts?

How far can the RFID reader transfer data via Bluetooth to a laptop?
The RFID readers can transmit a Bluetooth signal up to 100 meters line of sight. Generally though around cattle yards you would expect the range to be approximately 30-50 meters. The transmission range also depends on the Bluetooth unit on the computer side. If it’s a low powered Bluetooth unit then 10 meters is usually the limit.
How high is the saleyard RFID antenna?
The Aleis saleyard RFID antenna is 1820mm (71 inches) high.
How long do the batteries in all RFID units last?
The batteries in RFID race units are designed to last for up to 10 hours from a full charge. Handheld RFID units will last about 30 hours of use.
How long do the RFID systems last before I have to buy a new one?
The RFID systems are designed last for years when installed correctly in conjunction with the customer properly using and caring for the equipment.
How long is the warranty on your RFID readers?
The warranty on Aleis products is 12 months.
How many RFID records can be stored in the wands or fixed units?
The wands and fixed RFID readers can store up to 10,000 RFID records per session and up to 40,000 records with data entry and 100,000 without data entry.
How often does the battery need to be charged for wands and fixed RFID units?
Before and after use of the fixed RFID unit or wand is recommended. If the RFID device is not in use, charge every 3 months.
How robust are the RFID wands and will they survive been dropped?
The RFID wands will survive a drop from 1 metre on to concrete but are not designed to be continuously dropped. If the RFID unit is abused too much will stop working (as most electronics will).
